It was a gathering of the leadership of the Nigerian sports industry at Eko Hotel Lagos for the unveiling of the Logo and Trophy of the National principals Cup on Monday 21st of September 2020. The event which was organized by the Federal ministry of youth and sports development in collaboration with HideaPlus Limited had in attendance, the Honorable minister of sports Mr Sunday Dare, the president of the Nigerian football federation Mr Amaju Pinnick, ex Super Eagles players, Daniel Amokachi and Joseph Dosu. Also at the historic event was former Nigerian athletics queen Mary Onyali, The Chairman, Board of Trustees of HideaPlus, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo and many others.
In his speech, the sports minister expressed his delight in bringing back the Principal’s Cup as he highlighted the important role the competition played in helping to discover many great footballing talents who went on to represent the country internationally in the past.
Tony Pemu, who is the Managing Director of Hideaplus said that they are following events closely, according to him, “We are aware that schools are yet to open and when it does open, there would be cautious steps for a few more months, but when things are back to normal, we will be holding the National Principals Cup to welcome students back to school to re tune their psyche and relax them into normal school life.
“We are following events closely. The Ministry of Sports and the National Council on Sports are hoping to hold the National Sports Festival between October and November. There is also the possibility of resuming the professional football leagues in the coming months. With the success of those events, we can be sure to hold the Principals Cup, applying whatever measures that may be required.
“It is important that the kids enjoy some relief too and that we continue in the process of discovering and nurturing talents for the future of our sports.”
Daniel Amokachi, Mary Onyali and Joseph Dosu were unvailed as Ambassadors of the National Principal’s Cup.
