it is gathered from SUN that the FA backed manager Gareth Southgate’s one-game ban for Sterling and are now considering a misconduct charge for the Manchester City winger.
Sterling was axed after Southgate spoke to 15 people who witnessed the fight at the Three Lions’ training HQ which left Gomez with a scratch below his right eye after being grazed by Sterling’s jewellery.
The fight began after Gomez offered a handshake and Sterling asked “Still the big man?” in reference to their row in the dying stages of Liverpool’s 3-1 Anfield win over city on Sunday.
Sterling has been axed for tomorrow’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro by Southgate after he held emergency meetings with senior players and backroom staff.
Sterling apologised to Gomez and the rest of his team-mates in a hastily-organised meeting on Monday night before posting an Instagram statement which read: “We are in a sport where emotions run high and I am man enough to admit when emotions got the better of me.
“Both Joe and I have had words, figured things out and moved on.
“Me and Joe are good, we both understand it was a 5-10 second thing. It’s done, we move forward and not make this bigger than it is.
